Pepe’s

Pepe’s, in South Haven, wrapped up its tailgate season on Super Bowl Sunday, with a Wings Cook-Off. Judges voted Roy Peeler’s wings as the best that afternoon.

Despite a low turnout, bar manager Eric Sanchez said the afternoon was a success and those who took part had fun. “A lot of people have Super Bowl parties at their homes these days and we didn’t have as many entries as the other cookoffs,” Sanchez said.

Sanchez said the contests would return when the NFL season returns in the fall. In addition to the wings cook off, Pepe’s also hosted a Chili, Spaghetti Sauce and Salsa cook off, in conjunction with its weekly Bears Tailgate Parties.  The contests were co-sponsored by Lou Sanchez of Tippecanoe Beverage and Budweiser.

“We have really had fun with the contests during the football season,” said Sanchez. “We wanted to do something a little different and because of the turnout, we definitely will have the contests again next year and maybe try some different things.” Sanchez said Pepe’s is also looking forward to the spring and summer baseball season with some Cubs and Sox trips and special events during the annual Cross Town classic.

“We have a good base of customers here and we’re always coming up with ideas to have fun,” Sanchez added. “You can always stop by and check out what’s happening and what’s coming up.”

Pepe’s is located at 809 McCool Road in South Haven. Call (219) 762-7666 for more information.
